Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC) was established in 1986 to develop resource-sharing among the libraries of private academic institutions in Southern California. Since its inception, SCELC has evolved to include all of California and is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation. SCELC represents: 110+ member institutions 230+ affiliate institutions Approximately 500,000 aggregate student population Over $200,000,000 in library budgets More than 21,430,000 volumes SCELC libraries can choose from nearly 2,500 electronic resources through over 100 vendors. SCELC is one of the top five consortia in licensing volume in North America. SCELC empowers librarians working in private nonprofit academic and research libraries to collaborate on access to and the effective use of library resources and services.
