Sierra Watch seeks to protect the Sierra's unique scenic, biological, and agricultural resources while allowing development that is consistent with the limited carrying capacity of the Sierra Region. To promote better planning for development, Sierra Watch will use public education and direct legal action to require compliance with planning and environmental protection laws. Sierra Watch will support effective participation by local community groups in the land use planning and development process by providing access to resource specialists, expert planners and land use attorneys. Where land use planning for projects with serious potential adverse effects on the environment proceeds in a manner contrary to law, Sierra Watch will use litigation and the initiative and referendum process to remedy improper decisions.
